Our best-selling chipper shredder has been redesigned for even better performance and durability. A more powerful engine produces faster and smoother chipping and shredding. Larger hopper openings make feeding material easier and faster. And a beefier steel frame ensures stability and long life.
Easy to Maneuver!
A sturdy, easy-to-grab tubular handlebar makes maneuvering the PRO 420 around the jobsite (or in and out of storage) a breeze. Just grab the handlebar and tilt it back toward you and roll easily on the big 14" wheels. In working position it is supported by the "kickstand".
Oversized Hoppers
The shredder hopper opening is 19.6" x 13.3", for easily dropping in leaves and prunings by the armload. The chipper hopper (9.4" x 8.6") will accept branches up to 4" in diameter.
Tubular Handlebar for Easy Maneuvering
Easy to grasp (even with gloves on) for smooth maneuvering around the jobsite or in and out of storage. A convenient foot-plate, below the recoil, gives you control as you tilt the machine toward you or "park" it in operating position.
"Kickstand" Provides Stable Operation
Holds the chipper shedder at the correct angle for working and makes it easy to transition between travel and work modes.
DR OHV Engine
The 9.2 HP OHV engine (301cc) has plenty of power for processing hardwood branches and churning through armloads of yard and garden waste. Available with manual- or electric-start.
Pro-Spec™ Chipper Knife
Made of high-carbon/high-chromium forged alloy tool steel, our knives hold an edge longer than those on "bargain" chippers. Still, as with any cutting tool, keeping a sharp edge is important for maintaining peak performance. We recommend keeping an extra on hand so you can minimize downtime.

Awesome machine!
I purchased this to help manage 2.5"-3.5" , up to 35' long Bamboo we planted for privacy I'm very glad I decided on the Pro 420 with electric Start. It chews right through everything with little effort and produces a fine mulch in the process. My only complaint would be the discharge area on the ground requires constant clearing which is no problem just more effort working alone. I enjoy the heck out of working with this machine as it's loads of fun to operate.
Not Really a "Beast"
I have an older version of this chipper/shredder, the Pro 400, have too say DR listened, but did not accomodate, the "loyal people" that treated themselves, like myself, to the "elite" chipper/shredder, the DR...I am on my third blade, hoping the chipper would live up to chipping "up to 4" branch or whatever...in its best day, with one of the aforementioned new/professionally sharpened blades, this "beast" is lucky to handle 1-2" branches, 3" balsa wood, forget about 4", they "listened" by changing the wheels and the "grab sections", the original pneumatic wheels were prone to completely turn over the unit, in transit, regardless of the terrain; the grab handles on my original unit could send you to urgent care, that is how sharp they were(I cushioned them myself), my unit, with very little hours, is going to be donated to Habitat as quickly as possible, as it has been one of the more disappointing purchases in my long life.
